According to Alfa Romeo Automobilisimo Storico, chassis number AR 1900C01828 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo 1900C Super Sprint, manufactured on 30th June 1954 and shipped to the Alfa Romeo importer, Bonniers of Stockholm, Sweden. It was originally manufactured in AR901 Nero (black) with beige/tan interior. It is fitted with the favoured 5 speed factory floor shift option with Nardi Touring design steering wheel
In 1951, Alfa Romeo launched the 1900C Sprint with bodywork by Pinin Farina (cabriolet) and Touring Coupe, both models utilising the 100bhp engine of the 1900TI sports saloon. The Touring-bodied Sprint Coupe attracted much public acclaim, designed to offer sporting performance together with '2+2' accommodation. It appealed to the sports car enthusiast with a family. In June 1954 the engine was enlarged to 1,975cc and the model re-designated as the 'Super Sprint'. With 115bhp on tap and possessing an excellent power-to-weight ratio courtesy of the aluminium-alloy body, the CSS could reach 118mph, an impressive speed for 1954! A total of 949 Sprints and 854 Super Sprints had been made by the time production ceased
It is understood that #1828 remained in Sweden and was returned to Italy in the 1980's for restoration before being purchased in 1992 by an Italian gentleman called Marco Maria Bother. He only retained the car for a short while before selling it in 1993 to Mr. Ophoff from Germany. Mr. Ophoff was also only a custodian for a short period until Mr. Schafers of Delbruck; Germany took ownership and cherished his 1900 until 2012. During his ownership a complete restoration was carried out to original specifications and colours. The engine and mechanical rebuilds were entrusted to Mssrs. BSM Salewsky PGmbH, who is just over the German border in Eupen, Belgium. Highly skilled engine rebuilders and race engineers BSM's work stands testament today as the engine still performs beautifully, having covered we believe, only 10,000kms since completion.
An active member of the Alfa club, Mr. Dohren of Germany purchased AR1900C1828 in 2012 and retained ownership until it was brought into a large Italian collection from where Southwood obtained the car.
Today #1828 remains in beautiful condition with just the right amount of patina. It is matching numbers and colours and is in excellent mechanical health. It would grace any collection and is obviously eligible for many historically important motoring events around the world. It is currently UK registered and we can assist in the arrangements to ship anywhere in the world for the new owner.
